The fifth, penultimate event of the Lithuanian Rally Championship usually took place in Elektrėnai. Rally action in one day, extremely narrow, fast, technical roads with special terrain are something like the representative card of this rally. 7 N5 cars took part in this rally, 6 of them in the LARČ and 1 in the LARSČ classification.
From the very first kilometers, Giedrius Firantas and Aras Kalėda, who were replacement co-drivers in this rally, shot ahead like a bullet. Their Volkswagen Polo N5 was not competing with class rivals but with faster cars in the FIA class. Even the intercom going on strike could not stop the crew. Deividas Gezevičius and Tomas Nenartavičius drove closest to their classmates and were almost 20 seconds behind Giedrius by the middle of the race. Deividas Ford Fiesta N5 was slowed down somewhat by a stone stuck in the car’s engine compartment, but despite this Deividas and Tomas drove confidently to 7th place overall. Immediately behind Deividas – in eighth place and just over 20 seconds behind – were one of their main rivals this season – Irmantas and Edvinas Buivydas, also with Ford Fiesta N5. They too had problems with their intercom, but these were much more serious and for two stages Irmantas drove only what he could see, while Edvinas tried in vain to shout over the noise of the sports car. As a result, a lot of time was lost and another classmate – Eugenijus Sladkevičius with Marius Kairys and the Škoda Fabia N5+ was breathing down their neck.
Paulius Beniušis and Kristupas Adinavičius had no luck in the very first special stage, where they lost around a minute due to temporary problems. Aurimas Eidžiūnas and Justas Barysas, who returned to the rally after a break, had to continue the competition according to the super rally rule. In the overall standings of the Lithuanian Rally Sprint Championship, everything went as well as possible for Adamas Petrovas, who was in a Ford Fiesta N5 for the first time. Together with his co-driver Aurimas Šošas, he took a commanding lead in the Lithuanian Rally Sprint classification.
On the remaining four gravel and one asphalt stage, the line-up of the competitors changed slightly. Giedrius Firantas drove one of his best rallies with Aras Kalėda and finished very confidently in sixth place, although Giedrius himself did not hide the fact that he made many mistakes during this rally. Deividas Gezevičius and Tomas Nenartavičius’ day ended very disappointingly. The pair stayed very close to Giedrius throughout the rally and were less than 10 seconds behind the VW Polo N5 before the eighth and final gravel stage. Unfortunately, the Ford Fiesta N5 crew had to stop to change the wheel after the puncture, losing a lot of time and dropping from 7th to 19th place. Nevertheless, they managed to finish second in their LARČ1 class and score plenty of points, as one of their rivals, Eugenijus Sladkevičius, failed to finish.
Not everything went well for Irmantas Buivydas in the second part of the rally either, but with 12th place overall and 2nd place in the LARČ5 class, they became LARČ5 champions. We congratulate them on such a great debut in the N5 car! Paulius Beniušis finished the race one position better than Deividas Gezevičius – in 18th place. In the Lithuanian rally sprint championship, Adamas Petrovas slowed down the pace with his Ford Fiesta N5 but kept the leading position without any problems and won with a lead of almost half a minute.
The final stage of the LARČ will take place in Utena in less than three weeks’ time.
